British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants

The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants is open until 5 June 2024 and are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. These awards, up to £10,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project.
 

Wellcome Career Development Awards

This scheme runs three times a year, upcoming deadlines are July 2024. The scheme provides funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline who have the potential to be international research leaders. They will develop their research capabilities, drive innovative programmes of work and deliver significant shifts in understanding related to human life, health and wellbeing. The award needs to be hosted in the UK, Republic of Ireland, or Low- or middle-income countries.
 

British Academy Knowledge Frontiers: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2025

This programme is open until 18 September 2024 and aims to support projects which engage with questions concerning the relationship between expertise, public understanding and policy delivery internationally, and highlight the importance of collaboration between communities of practice, disciplines, capacities and borders. Awards of 24 months in duration and up to £300,000 are available. 
 

British Academy Global Innovation Fellowships: The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) 2024

The Global Innovation Fellowships are open until 25 September 2024 and provide opportunities to UK-based early- and mid-career researchers from across the humanities and social sciences to develop their skills, networks and careers in the creative and cultural, public, private and policy sectors to address challenges that require innovative approaches and solutions. Through the Global Innovation Fellowships, researchers in the SHAPE community will be supported to create new and deeper links beyond academia, so enabling knowledge mobilisation and translation, as well as individual skills development.
 

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Researchers at Risk

This MSCA call is open 12 September 2024 to 14 January 2025, and aims to provide further support towards national and international organisations working with researchers at risk and aiming to enhance and professionalise their activities.
 

British Academy Visiting Fellowships

The Visiting Fellowships enable academics from any country overseas to be based at a UK higher education or other research institution of their choice for up to six months and develop collaborative projects with UK colleagues. Visiting Fellowships are available for a period of between three to six months, and the maximum funding available is £33,000.
 

European Research Council Consolidator Grant, €2-3 million for 5 years

This Consolidator grant has yearly calls and is for scientists who want to consolidate their independence by establishing a research team and continuing to develop a successful career in Europe. Open to researchers of any nationality with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.
