British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants

The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants is open until 5 June 2024 and are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. These awards, up to £10,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project.

 

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) European Postdoctoral Fellowships

This MSCA Fellowship call is open until 11 September 2024 for researchers of any nationality. The Fellowship aims to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD and who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary mobility.

 

British Academy Knowledge Frontiers: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2025

This programme is open until 18 September 2024 and aims to support projects which engage with questions concerning the relationship between expertise, public understanding and policy delivery internationally, and highlight the importance of collaboration between communities of practice, disciplines, capacities and borders. Awards of 24 months in duration and up to £300,000 are available. 

 

British Academy Global Innovation Fellowships: The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) 2024

The Global Innovation Fellowships are open until 25 September 2024 and provide opportunities to UK-based early- and mid-career researchers from across the humanities and social sciences to develop their skills, networks and careers in the creative and cultural, public, private and policy sectors to address challenges that require innovative approaches and solutions. Through the Global Innovation Fellowships, researchers in the SHAPE community will be supported to create new and deeper links beyond academia, so enabling knowledge mobilisation and translation, as well as individual skills development.

 

MSCA Researchers at Risk

This MSCA call is open until 14 January 2025, and aims to provide further support towards national and international organisations working with researchers at risk and aiming to enhance and professionalise their activities.

 

European Research Council Starting grant, €1.5-2.5 million for 5 years

This Starting grant has yearly calls and is for talented early-career scientists who have already produced excellent supervised work, are ready to work independently and show potential to be a research leader. Open to early-career researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.
 

British Academy International Fellowships

This International Fellowship has yearly calls and enables researchers to work for two years at a UK institution with the aim of building a globally connected, mobile research and innovation workforce. Applicants should have no more than seven years of active full time postdoctoral experience, and research expenses up to £12,000 are available and relocation costs of up to £8,000.
 

British Academy Visiting Fellowships

The Visiting Fellowships enable academics from any country overseas to be based at a UK higher education or other research institution of their choice for up to six months and develop collaborative projects with UK colleagues. Visiting Fellowships are available for a period of between three to six months, and the maximum funding available is £33,000.
 

British Academy Newton International Fellowships

The Newton International Fellowship has yearly calls and enables researchers from any country to work for two years at a UK institution with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations. Applicants should have no more than 7 years of active full time postdoctoral experience. Funding consists of £30,000 per annum for subsistence costs, and up to £8,000 per annum research expenses, as well as a one-off payment of up to £3,500 for relocation expenses.

University of Oxford College schemes to support short-term Visiting Fellowships

The University welcomes applications from academics who are employed at a university overseas for visits of between one month and one year. These include Visiting Scholars who are research-active academic staff at other institutions and Doctoral Researchers visiting Oxford who are registered as doctoral students at another institution.
